COUNTY OFFICES TO CLOSE TODAY AT 3:00 PM, WILL RE-OPEN TUESDAY, DECEMBER 27, 2022
The Board of Commissioners of St. Joseph County, in consultation with the county’s Emergency Management Agency, Highway Department, Sheriff, and 911 Dispatch Center, are closing county offices at 3:00 PM on Thursday, December 22, 2022. The County-City Building will be closed on Friday, December 23, 2022.
The St. Joseph Circuit and Superior Courts will be closed beginning today, December 22, 2022, at 3:00 PM and shall reopen Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 8:00 AM. This includes Courthouses 1, 2, and 3 located in downtown South Bend and the Courthouse complex located on Lincolnway East in Mishawaka. All in person afternoon court hearings, including in-custody arraignments and hearings held in Traffic & Misdemeanor Court, will occur today as scheduled. Tomorrow’s hearings will all be continued. Please go to http://mycase.in.gov for further information about your case, or if you are represented by legal counsel, please contact your attorney.
Our Emergency Management Agency has been working with area agencies in our county to have emergency shelters with cots and bedding established in the event it is needed. Please check http://sjcindiana.com for a listing of these locations, should they be opened. These partners include the South Bend Community School Corporation, American Red Cross, the City of South Bend and St. Joseph County.
The City of South Bend offices will be open to the public until 3:00 PM on Thursday, December 22, 2022, and will be closed on Friday, December 23, 2022. City services are still available all day today and tomorrow by calling the 311-service portal or by visiting their website at https://www.southbendin.gov.
As the County-City Building was previously scheduled to be closed on Monday, December 26, 2022 in observance of the Christmas Holiday, both the County and the City will reopen at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.
The County Highway Department encourages all residents to drive with care, and travel during the winter storm only if absolutely necessary. The expected high winds will result in occasional white-out conditions drifting of snow over previously plowed streets. The Highway Department will have crews out during the entirety of the winter weather event and for the safety of everyone in our community, please only travel if you have no other option. If you do have to travel, make sure you have a fully charged cell phone, blankets and water in case your vehicle becomes disabled or is involved in an accident.
The County Parks will open their winter activities on Monday, December 26, 2022, depending on weather and snow conditions. Please check their website at http://sjcparks.org or their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/sjcparks/ for updates.
