Detention Visitation

Detention Visitation Policies

  • Visitors must pre-register with Security 5-10 minutes prior to the scheduled visitation time. A resident may be allowed to have two people visit at a time. Visitors must have photo identification in order to receive a visitor’s ID badge. If visitors are more than 5 minutes late for the scheduled visitation time, the visit may not be allowed.
  • No personal items are allowed in visitation (cell phones, electronics, refreshments, purses, hats, jackets, letters, books, money, etc.) All items must be placed in the lockers outside visitation.
  • No alcohol or drugs may be consumed prior to a Detention visit. If a visitor is suspected of having consumed alcohol or drugs the visit will be denied or terminated, and the police may be notified.
  • Appropriate clothing must be worn during Detention visits or the visit may be denied. Revealing, gang promoting, or offensive clothing are prohibited as determined by the Detention Supervisors.

Staff will terminate a visit for improper behavior or clothing, no exceptions.

Resident’s Visitation Policy

Detention Staff monitor all Resident visitation. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to the specific guidelines for each type. Visits with Residents in secure custody are held in Detention. Lack of cooperation with JJC staff or misconduct by visitors or Residents may result in suspension of visitation privileges.

Initial Visit: An initial visit is an opportunity for the Resident to meet with legal guardians or an attorney. This is your opportunity to check the Resident’s welfare and help decide if you want to retain legal representation.

Regular Visits: All Visitors must be approved by the Probation Department. Residents may be allowed visits from approved legal guardians and grandparents. Residents have regular visits on Tuesday or Thursday with an opportunity to earn an additional honor visit for good behavior and progress within the JJC's behavior level system.

Visitation with Resident’s Child: If a Resident has a child, that child may be added to the visitation list by the Probation Department. The Resident’s child is only allowed to be brought for visitation by an approved visitor. Children are not permitted to visit during regular visitation times. Child visitation times are Monday and Thursday at 10:00 AM, or by special appointment.

Placement Visits: Residents who are being ordered placed outside of the Resident’s home, with the exception of the Indiana Department of Correction, may be approved for a special visit if the Resident is scheduled to leave detention prior to their regularly scheduled visitation time. These visits must be approved by the Probation Department or by order of the Court. Probation Officers are responsible for completing a visitation request. Visits will not be allowed for residents who are not behaving.

Counseling Sessions: Mental Health counselors are encouraged to meet with residents. The Probation Department authorizes these visits by special request.

Attorney Visits: The Resident’s attorney of record is allowed unobstructed visits within reasonable hours.
