The Pavement Preservation Program consists of crack filling, patching, and surface treating roads with a variety of applications, to aid in extending the useful life of the pavement. This program is geared towards proactively treating the Right road, at the Right time, with the Right application. Similar to how a vehicle needs routine maintenance to properly function, so too does our roadway system.
Public Works maintains a pavement rating system, to assist in the prioritization of roadway maintenance needs. Depending on the application used, pavement preservation may take place anywhere between 2-5 years after new pavement is placed. By properly preserving the pavement, this can extend the useful life of the road, allowing us to further stretch the available funding for road construction.
